Every time I travel there are just a handful of apps I use, and with this long awaited releases, Frommers is now one of them. I’ve never been happier to delete an app than I was when I got the Frommers app on my iPad and was able to uninstall all the Lonely Planet stuff. The LP apps were decent, but I’ve always been more of a Frommers guy, and now that they have an app they are going on my third screen, which is where all my travel stuff is. Along with Frommers, I use Travelocity for all my bookings, FlightTracker for info on arrivals and delays, and UrbanSpoon for finding good places to eat and avoiding tourist traps and salmonella. For beating boredom at the airport I use an app I picked up last year through my job at Dish. Their remote access app lets me pull live and recorded shows off my box at home and watch them on my phone or tablet, as long as I’m somewhere with wifi or 3G. Now, instead of stressing about the flight or dying of boredom I can just pop on my headphones and pull up the newest Daily Show episode or re-watch a classic episode of Community or Parks & Rec.

What I absolutely love so far about Sparrow on IOS is the ability to use aliases to compose emails. I work for multiple companies and have all my accounts feeding into a "master" gmail account, and have aliases setup so within gmail I can reply from whichever account the message is sent to without thinking twice.

In iOS Mail.app, I could not do this and had to add in either all the other email accounts in full (then remove them from the master gmail account and lose the archive of all sent and received messages in one place) or do the imap trick where you include all the emails you want to send from using a comma and space (google that if you're interested). That option worked, BUT I had to select the account I wanted to reply from every time I tried to reply. No big deal, I know, but often I forgot to do this and ended up replying with the wrong email account.

Sparrow does this automatically. I setup my aliases, and now every message I receive and send is logged in my master gmail account, and every time I reply to a received message, the correct address is selected automatically. Lovely!

But yes, the push thing is a hoped-for feature. For now I'll use Mail.app for push and Sparrow for replying/composing. The UI is great and faster/more intuitive. I haven't tried Sparrow on the desktop, might have to now.

It is fantastic that DirecTV updated their app to allow streaming in home! I use a similar app on my iPad from my employer DISH Network. It is called the DISH Remote Access app. It is like the DirecTV app in it lets me stream live TV on my iPad. The main difference is that I can take my iPad with me wherever I go, and still watch TV. On top of that, I can stream anything that I have on my DVR, and when I need to be extra portable, I can use the app on my iPhone. The DirecTV app is on its way to being something pretty great, but it still has a few updates to go! Plus they have to work out the negotiations with FOX, since some channels that are available on the app could potentially be taken down.

It's not "improved" when PC manufacturers are going more and more with snap on, and less screws being required. You can just snap the PCI or PCI-E card into the motherboard in most modern towers without needing any screws. Also, things like Hard Drives, CD Drives, etc. only require snapping in without needing to be screwed in, and the towers are modular. So there is no improvement that Apple is doing.

Updating the iPad app to work on iPhone and iPod Touch was a good move by Cablevision. Unfortunately, the app is still very limited in what it can do. Sure you can control your TV with the remote feature, set recordings, and watch TV on your device, but what happens when you leave your home? The app becomes useless! I use the DISH Remote Access app for my streaming needs. Like the Cablevision app, I can control my channels with a remote feature, set recordings from my phone, and stream TV to my phone. The big difference is that I can actually leave the house with my iPhone and iPad and still watch live TV or recorded shows! As a customer and employee of DISH Network, I have been using the DRA for a long time, and I can say that being able to watch TV on my way to work, school or anywhere is the best!

be careful - going through a very painful time with Apple returning a iMAC which i was expliciity told would be pre installed with Lion, but delivered as Snow Leopard. They will offering a software upgrade after i complained saying its actually a good thing as i can now CHOOSE between the two OSX. ( whats idiot would fall for that ?)

A refund is possible in 14 days after DHL collect the machine and guess what.......after 3 days still no contact from DHL. Appalling service.

Apparently, it's ok for Google to use patents to provide "a disincentive for others to sue the search giant.", but it's NOT ok for Apple to use its patents, be it, 'pinch-to-zoom', or other multi-touch patents to act a disincentive for others, like its Android division, to rip-off its products, such as the iPhone!

Google is EVIL! If they were so altruistic and believe that things should be open, then let see them prove it by letting other search engines use Google's own search algorithms so they can improve them for consumers?
